We had a beautiful tour in Mendon on Sunday, before work. The snow depth was huge, it was so light and powdery, we climbed 750 ft, on a super cold bluebird day. The forest was so quiet, we could hear the trees squeak. We skinned uphill for a little over an hour, and the ridge was windy and cold on the top. The ski down was a super fun luge run, it was so deep , but you could slip in and out of the skinning track and get some amazing deep powder turns.

Getting away from the area and deep into the forest is one of my favorite things. I’m always reminded of a great “TedTalk” I heard once of how “trees talk to each other”! A ten year long study of how interacted their roots and branches are, and the soil they share, and the climate, and how they will actually share water and nutrients with a weaker tree, especially of the same species. It was enlightening and fascinating!

The views from the top are always so beautiful, the ‘reward’ for the skin up! These are of the west ridge behind Pico looking at Blue Ridge and East Mountain..

Ready for the run down, the fun part!
